Hi! Thanks for visiting Beadazzled
by Dawn!
My name is Dawn and I started designing beaded jewelry
a little more than two years ago. One day, I was
at a store and saw some fun wooden cheetah beads,
so I decided to "try" to make a bracelet (it's a
lot harder than it looks!). The little crimps and
beads kept shooting all over the place, dropping
on to the carpet and getting lost. It was quite the
stressful experience. Apparently I am a glutton for
punishment, so...six months and many little plastic
containers later, I had stacks and stack of beads.
I sold a few necklaces to some visiting teachers,
and was definitely hooked. I now have a wall full
of beads, and I have to sell my products to support
my habit....bead habit, that is.
I do have another full-time job, though. I work at
a residential outdoor school in the Cuyamaca mountains,
east of San Diego. There, we take local 6th grade
students out in nature for hikes, activities and
programs. They stay up for five days, learning about
nature and how to be away from home. I have been
working there for more than 8 years. Concurrently
with that, for close to 7 years, I worked as a Tour
Guide at the San Diego Zoo, driving a 41-foot double
decker bus through the Zoo, giving tours to up to
100 people at a time. The Zoo is a beautiful place,
and is also a great botanical garden.
I went to San Diego State University a little later
in life than most (after 10 years of night classes
at a community college while I worked full-time).
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from SDSU with a B.S.
in Biology (my emphasis was in Zoology) and am honored
to be a member of Phi Beta Kappa. For the 15 years
previous to that, I worked in a print shop, a typography
house and finally was a graphic designer at a business
newspaper, creating display advertising and marketing
pieces.

I live
in a rural area called Descanso, in the foothills east of
San Diego. I have a gray cat that I got at the animal shelter.
None of the names I gave her ever stuck, so she is simply "Kitteh." I
also have a man (not from the animal shelter...).
So that's it in a nutshell. I hope I can support
your love of jewelry (so you can support my "bead habit")!
Thanks for visiting!
Dawn
